Yvonne Joyce Craig
Yvonne Joyce Craig (May 16, 1937 - August 17 in 2015) was an American actress and ballet dancer famous for her part as Batgirl in the 1960s television series Batman as well as her role as the green-skinned Orion slave girl Marta in the Star Trek episode "Whom Gods Destroy" (1969). The Huffington Post referred to her as "a pioneer in female super heroes" on television. Yvonne Craig was born and was raised in Taylorville, Illinois. Her family relocated to Dallas in 1951. She was a student at W. H. Adamson High School, Sunset High School and then W. H. Adamson High School. Unfortunately, she didn't graduate because she was not awarded "one credits for PE". Craig was recognized by Alexandra Danilova (a ballerina and teacher) and joined the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo in 1951, becoming the youngest corps de ballet member. This experience was beneficial in her stunt work while performing as Batgirl. In 1957, she left the company "over an issue with casting changes". She relocated to Los Angeles in hopes of getting back into dance. However, she was soon cast in films roles. She first appeared in an episode of the TV episode of Perry Mason ("The Case of the Lazy Lover") along with Neil Hamilton. Hamilton later became the Batgirl's police commissioner James Gordon. After that, she appeared in three films--The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story and Gidget (all 1959)--and was also a guest in the TV series Mr. Lucky as Beverly Mills in the episode "Little Miss Wow" (also 1959). Craig played alongside Bing Crosby (1960), and Seven Women from Hell (1961), which featured Cesar Romero. In 1962, she appeared as a guest star in Western Laramie's "The Long Road Back" episode. Craig also appeared alongside Bing Crosby in High Time (1960) as well as Seven Women from Hell (1961), both of which included Cesar Romero. Craig also starred in two Elvis Presley films: It Was at the World's Fair (1963), and Kissin' Cousins (1964). In the year 1966, she was a part-time actress in Mars Needs Women. In 1967, she was an Russian dancer on In Like Flint.
